Starting with a successful pilot in 2023, CyAN’s mentorship programme contributes to the growth and sustainability of the global information security sector by supporting students and new career entrants.
We connect aspiring professionals with experienced, respected, and knowledgeable CyAN members around the world. The programme is designed as an informal, friendly “step up” to cybersecurity and similar careers, helping new professionals develop.
Candidates
Candidates are ideally in higher education (minimum university level), recent graduates, or trainees in their field. They should have an ambition and interest in fields relevant to the security sector, such as cybersecurity, law and regulation, defence, technology and engineering,or risk management and resilience.
Candidates are expected to be highly motivated self-starters, who will proactively reach out to their mentor.
Activities and Expectations
Mentors provide career and learning advice, introductions, and other guidance, while in turn learning from their candidate.. Mentors and candidates are expected to hold a 1:1 call at least once every two weeks during the 3 months of the programme. Mentors are expected to be available during this time to answer questions and make connections with other professionals, whenever possibld and appropriate.
At the end of the mentorship programme, each candidate will contribute some content relevant to their work and professional interests to CyAN – whether a blog post/article, a presentation, participation in CyAN’s Secure-in-Mind podcast series. Upon completion of the programme, candidates will be accepted to join CyAN, with their membership dues waived for the subsequent year.
Links to past candidates’ contributions can be found in the 2023 mentorship pilot summary.
